2016 Conference Food

Where to go and eat

Thank you everyone for registering for the Learning Sciences Graduate Student Conference! With the conference only a couple of weeks away, we are keeping busy with the finishing touches.

First things first, food: registered participants will be provided with light hors d'oeuvres on Thursday, October 20th during the Welcome Reception prior to the Opening Keynote. On Friday, October 21st, during the main conference day, registered participants will receive a breakfast with food and caffeinated drinks, as well as a complimentary boxed lunch.

If you’re planning on staying in town on Friday, there are plenty of great food destinations in Chicago easily accessible from the conference location in and around University Village in the Near West Side. While not exhaustive, here are a few of the great restaurants near the conference venue at the corner of Harrison and Racine. We’ve added a V to indicate vegetarian options and G to indicate gluten-free options; many veg places seem to have GF options, but call ahead.

On Racine Ave, directly north of the conference venue

  • Wise Owl - American, bar

From west to east on Taylor St, to the south of the conference venue

  • Three Aces - American, bar

  • Hana - Japanese, fusion, sushi (v)

  • Busy Burger - American, burgers (v)

  • Al’s Beef - Chicago cuisine, Italian beef

  • Thai Bowl - Thai, noodles (v)

  • Tuscany - Italian, upscale (v)(g)

From north to south on Halsted St, to the east of the conference venue

  • Santorini - Greek, seafood (v)

  • Artopolis - Greek, bakery (v)

  • Giordano’s - Chicago cuisine, deep dish pizza (v) (g)

  • La Taberna Tapas - Spanish, Mexican, fusion

  • Lotus Café - Vietnamese, banh mi (v)

After the Panel Discussion and some closing words, the members of the LSGS organizing committee will help arrange groups to eat at different nearby restaurants. Attendees are also encouraged to organize their own groups for dinner. Although dinner will not be provided by the conference, we hope that this option will allow you to continue discussions and connections with people that you meet at the conference.

We are very excited to see everyone at the first Learning Sciences Graduate Student Conference in just a couple short weeks!
